The Challenge
Bilgola Plateau is known for its steep blocks and challenging terrain. This property had a 3-metre height difference from street level to the front door, with an eroding dirt embankment.
The Result
A solid, engineered retaining wall with integrated stairs that solved the erosion problem and gave the homeowners safe, permanent access to their property.

The Full Story
This Bilgola Plateau property sits on one of the steepest residential blocks in the area. The existing dirt embankment had been slowly eroding for years, washing soil onto the footpath and creating an unsafe, slippery access path to the front door.
We designed and built a structural concrete retaining wall with heavy steel reinforcement to hold back the hillside. The wall includes integrated weep holes and a French drain system behind it to manage water pressure — critical on the Northern Beaches where heavy rain can destabilise retaining structures.
The integrated concrete stairs were formed and poured as part of the wall structure, with a non-slip broom finish and a galvanised steel handrail for safety. The steps follow the natural contour of the block, making the walk up feel gradual rather than steep.
The finished result is a wall that looks like it's always been part of the property. No more erosion, no more slippery dirt paths, and the homeowners finally feel confident walking to their front door in the rain.
